
The advantages have been clearly demonstrated of having a system of support for the staff which is internal to a humanitarian organisation or an enterprise. For a minimum cost it allows the spirit of solidarity and responsibility of the staff to be fully used. The program which the CPH offers to NGO's aims to help those responsible for the staff, whether in the field or at headquarters, to create within the organisation a structure of psychological support - one could also say mutual support - in a way which is both vertical and horizontal. The CPH team has been carrying out such programs for some years.

The program comprises three stages : training modules in the various aspects of the management of stress and critical incidents, as well as of other fields which are crucial for work in the field such as the training of team leaders, techniques of conflict resolution, tools for negotiation and mediation, communication in an intercultural environment.. A special accent is placed upon the training of trainers for local staff. next, in collaboration with the human resource department, the creation of the system of peer support within the organisation, taking the form of coaching sessions. This involves the integration of the knowledge acquired during the training sessions, adapting it to the internal realities of the organisation and integrating a system of individual psychological briefing and debriefing, a system of support for team leaders, preserving the experiences of the organisation, analysing the systems of vertical and horizontal communication, etc. the establishment of appropriate procedures for implementing in concrete terms all the preceding work.
