Clara C. - Head of Mission, International ONG
Thinking back on my last experience in the field as Head of Mission, I understand how I could have avoided many troubles and headaches with some prior valuable knowledge. Now I have done the course, I understand why you get stressed working in the field and what you can do to manage the situation. The information and tools regarding culture shock, cumulative stress and conflict management would have been extremely useful.  I would have been much better prepared to understand my limits and the challenges, as well as being able to give support to my colleagues who had their own problems.

Francis W. – Free lance war reporter
Having been involved for many years in different war zones, I had developed my own personal defence mechanisms to protect myself from the horrors around me - including denial, of course. As is usual in my profession, I had no support whatsoever. My job is a very lonely one indeed. The CHP support network has definitely helped me in many difficult situations. I have started taking the multimedia course and find that I am finally able to understand and put words to some of my most painful experiences. I am looking forward to taking the second part, with the various tools that are included, especially the relaxation program...

Kathrine S. – American NGO
All the examples I came across in this training course remind me so well of so many situations I have had to face since I decided to follow my chosen career in field work...

Michèle U. – European NGO
Before leaving on my mission, in a fairly secure development programme, I was fully confident that I could handle any situation that I might discover.  Well, it turned out that overnight, the host country was plunged into a civil war and all of a sudden working there became an absolute nightmare. I have now started the CHP course on stress management and I’m really finding it very valuable for situations such as these….

Neo H. - UN Agency
Even though I had previously worked in several English-speaking countries, landing in the Ivory Coast as a UN staff member was a shock! Trying to settle in a country with very little French, terrible humidity and the effects of culture shock was just too much for me.  How I wish I had taken the multimedia training course before. I’m sure I would have coped much better... I recommend it very strongly to anyone who might face the same situation.

Patricia F. - Project coordinator in a European development Agency
I must say that this multimedia kit has been of enormous support to me. In my first mission it helped me to face some of the most difficult psychological situations I ever had to face in my whole life. Basic information on what to expect in the field and tools that helped me understand and meet the challenges – these are the things that were most important to me...
